I Don't Care About Your Stupid Facebook Family

You'd think with AI becoming a thing over the past 365 days that adults wouldn't be posting their kids info and photos online. Here we are, however, in the first week of school of 2024; adults are logging into Facebook to relentlessly share their kids, age, year, name and photo are shared for all the world to see.

Some people will tell you, "Facebook is just for my friends and family" ...Uhh, no it isn't. And working with families, others will tell me, "I signed up for Facebook because that is the way my family seems to share info about our grandkids." Dang, what a position. I feel you grandma's and grandpa's.

I do notice how families use, or misuse social media to 'keep in touch'. I don't think they're keeping in touch at all... Every family is sure to have showoffs. Internet is addicting. There is gratification about showing lovely pictures of happy times and cute kids. Someone in the family will start 'sharing' and others will jump on board... And there you go -- you are now a family of relentless over-sharing dumbasses too.

Who, in the family, decides that keeping in touch is now over Facebook? Is this a thing that everyone decides and agrees on? Everyone is just, somehow, okay with sharing their most precious, powerless members of the family unit online -- and everyone is like, "yeah! That's a good idea! Let's move all our communication and staying-in-touch to Facebook!" You would think that every member of every family would be on social media but, the truth is... Not everyone wants to and social media is toxic, annoying and isolating.

I haven't shared about my kiddo on social media in six years. Internet is become a deep, dark place and people are addicted frybrains. Little One is not so little anymore and it feels very inappropriate to share photos of her without her permission. Also, I get to work with youth a lot -- do you know how embarrassing it is to them to have their parents share all of that!? These adults really can not stop themselves. This is a public service announcement people. Get off the internet and go out and play -- and then DON'T POST ABOUT IT!" Keep it humble, would ya?

She loves shoes. Every morning after breakfast she goes to get her shoes from the doorway and grunts away because she wants them on her feet. She then stomps proudly around the house laughing at the sound they make on the floor. Often, she'll just walk around the house carrying her shoes in her hands. The Hundred Languages Of Children - A Poem

My, my, my it's been a late night with her. So, I'm just going to post a poem - my favorite poem. I always get a bit of a lump in my throat when I read it. The poem, "The Hundred Languages of Children" was written by Loris Malaguzzi, founder of the 'Reggio Emilia' approach to childcare. As I may have mentioned in a previous post , playgroups irritate me. Being a co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, cloth diapering, organic-whole foods feeding mamma (wow, I do sound like a raging hippy), I just can't seem to connect with the other mamma's. But for the sake of having a post-baby social life, Little One and I attend them quite regularly. I've been in the city for a few months now and have found a variety of playgroups. Some fun, some so-so, and some we will never attend again. On Saturday, we hooked up with a group of other mommies and tots for a clothes swap. We had never met this group before and I had already made the usual promise to myself to avoid any parenting conversations. Why? Because I don't need no judgements and it ain't none of yo' business that my baby don't sleep in a crib. I pulled up to the correct address...
